real player type software for CD player [Compaq; ; win95a]
I bought an off lease Compaq Deskpro. Today I had a Soundblaster card installed. I have speakers and have no trouble hearing music online. I don't seem to have the driver I need to play CD's in the CD player. I tried to download Real Player....whick I did for an hour, and then when it tried to install it said I needed Windows 98 or better...ARGH!!!!%%%%**** Then I downloaded Windows Media problem, but still can't play music CD's on the CD reads data, so that isn't the problem. Is there something I can download for free somewhere???? Thanks for all help.;)

you must have forgot to install the audio cable from your cdrom drive to the sound card........ after that, play your cd with windows media player......... :D lol........ (follow what QWERTY said)

Windows 95 came with CD audio playing software built in and Media Player also should have been able to play CD audio. What exactly is the problem? Is it playing and you're just not hearing anything?

If that's the case I suspect that either you either have the CD audio volume level turned all the way down (CD volume is a different control then the master volume) or you're missing the audio cable that connects the CD-ROM to the sound card. Open the system and look for a thin gray cable connecting the back of the CD-ROM to the Sound card.
