Anyway to limt bandwidth?
Hi I want to limt a users banwidth on the network.

its a adsl connection split over a Dlink DSL 504 router.

The user i want to limt is on XP Pro.

It can be a regastry tweak or a router setting

anything really, I just want the internet banwidth dropped not the network speed.

any ideaS?

Hi Matrix_581,

Have a look here, not tried but seems to do what you need and free :)

Yes there are ways, we use something called packeteer in work, we can limit bandwidth based on IP addresses or hardware addys of networked workstations, we can also give priority to certain sites, for example give - etc - this way the likes of us in the department have more bandwidth to search for TID's, patch downloads etc, or just plainly take advantage and prioritise sites for our own personal devices

I tested Packeteer at work , it is a nice bit of hardware - but not cheap!

that it isn't m8 - very expensive but a great bit of kit - i have only used it at work - we user it for about 5000+ users which serves us well - but on a smaller network there maybe other alternatives - I haven't come across any as the packeteer does the job for us.
