I'm using DivX player 2.0 alpha, standard like I d/l'ed it - nothing further installed...
what is/where can i get DivX311alpha?
is it a plug-in for use w/ the divx player, or a total new divx player?

just checked - it is only the second disc of the mexican that has no sound aboard, the first one plays w/o problems.
that proggie said: codec not installed (for both audio and video, though the video plays)
file is .AVI
audio codec: ac3 (0x2000) "Dolby Laboratories, Inc"
video codec: div3 ; divx 3 low-motion

Ok so it does use AC3. So just do as above.

DivX311alpha is just a video codec (and audio), nothing more. DivX 3 low-motion is DivX311alpha as is DivX 3 high-motion. However DivX 5.xx can play it back fine. So you don't really need to install it.

Well if the first disc works fine then I guess that means you do have all the needed codecs/filters installed. So the second disc plays fine, just without sound?

You could try demuxing and remuxing the audio with VirtualDub mod and see if that helps.
