I would recommend that you try capturing, etc. on your PC and then decide whether it is too much of a hassle and if so, then get a standalone.

Just to let you know that i got my DVD recorder for a 2 week trial & played about with some capturing & i must say the quality is astounding on SP mode which will give you a 2 hour burn on 1 DVD+R/RW.

I will say the quality is better than what i have achieved on my PC which is specd up to the eyeballs.


I used Pinnacle DV studio for an AVI capture then impoted my AVI into Tmpeg Enc for the conversion to DVD & the results were good but not as good as the Phillips DVDR 880 standalone.


I`m glad i plumped for the DVDR machine i`ll get one for sure now !

I saw a ES30 dvd recorder at Costco for $550 yesterday, a couple hundred bucks cheaper than any other store.
