Default how do u tell which ports are usb 2

i have standard and usb 2 ports on my pc ... how do u tell which is which

Well the ones that are USB2 would be hooked up to a USB2 controller.

i had machine built and they are usb off the motherboard but cant find book or contact lad who built it theres 2 at rear of machine and 2 at front

Even if they are hooked upto the motherboard, the USB2 ones would be hooked up to a USB2 controller which should be marked on the PCB. Keep in mind though that "USB2" on the PCB could just mean the second port on the motherboard and not actual usb2, just like IDE1, IDE2, etc.

Also many MB manufactures have manuals available for download.
