Default "Free" Laser Repair Method

sponsored links

My PS2 was beginning to play up with CDs so I knew it was only a matter of time before the laser died totally.
When I was fitting my flip lid I noticed that in the laser's home position the was a 5mm gap between the edge of the laser and where it should have been to enable it to read from the start of the disc. There was also a build of white gunk (not that white gunk!) on the metal bars the laser travels on.
I cleaned this off the metal bars with a cotton bud and greased them with a drop of WD40 (Spray it in the lid of the can and rub it on with your finger). I moved the laser manually a few times to work the WD40 in tried one of my CDs that did not work earlier.
Hey presto it now works a treat and it didn't cost a penny. It looks like the problem is caused by the white gunk (lithium grease and dust) building up at the end of the lasers travel.
This might not work for everyone but it is worth a try. Let me know how you get on.

toadster,
what media dvd-r are you using? i had trouble with VC until i used a verbatim dvd-r. every other brand would freeze up during game play. try a GOOD brand like verbatim, apple, fuji, etc.
