Default !!HELP!! Xp Wont Boot Up After Re-install

sponsored links

Have tried to re-install windows xp, all worked fine except i put a custom boot-up screen on, and i think that messes it up..

So now it just goes to the custom one which then goes to a blank screen..

I really dont want to lose all my files, What can i do to keep them?? IS there anyway of backing them up??

Can i install xp to a different partition and get them back??

All suggestions welcome,

thanks

james

Have you tried booting into safe mode and uninstalling your custom screen?
What about system recovery and restoring it to a point before the custom screen?

There isn't going to be a restore point straight after a reinstall.

If you've tried everything sounds like a reinstall. How about making yourself a partition, lets say "D" assuming you haven't already partitioned your HD, saving all your important files onto it (and dont forget to note your internet settings and so on ...) - and then reinstall XP onto C. And next time ... don't mess about with it! The more things you change the more chance you have of a$$ing windows up ...

Installing boot screens is always risky which is why your supposed to make a backup that you can go back to.

Well, I guess it's a lesson learned for the future.
