Just bring the two computers in the same room first, and see if you can get a link, if you cant, then may be the card is faulty or they had been setup incorrectly.
If you can see each other in the same room, then the card just not powerful enough to transmit on that distance with the obsticles in between.
Dont rely on the manufactures quote of 100m indoor and 300m outdoor, these are measured in a clean room, we have installed in offices with 2 walls and distance of 10m where the link failed, but minus the walls, the range went up to almost 20m, you also have to take into consideration that there may be other equipment interfering with the signal such as coreless equipment.
