Riteks are unquestionably the best media for the $. They work well even in DVD Players that are picky. As for firmware updates they do have one or two but no one has really found a clear answer as to what they update. Supposedly there is hacked firmware just around the corner for it however, use hacked firmware at your own risk.

jsl,you are right.I knew what I was trying to write, but it came out backwards. What I "meant" to say was the Asus 4x burner was based on the Pioneer 106,and Asus has shown their new 8x +/- drive. So the Pioneer 107(?) should not be to much of a surprise. It will probably be a mirror image of the Asus!

im going to my local to buy a 106 in the morning. its 130 squid, but by the time u pay delivery and whatever from svp, it'll not leave me out of pocket that much

ive had a pioneer 104 for a little over a year and had zero problems with it, thus the reason why im sticking with pioneer. i just hope i have as many problems with the 106 as ive had with the 104.

You should've gotten the Pioneer. The NEC is very picky about what media it writes to. The Pioneer 106 is 115 pounds including VAT from SVP. Riteks are the media that most recommend.
