How do you get the original dvd (in widescreen) on to a dvd-r in fullscreen if possible? I tried dvdxcopy express but just comes up with an error. I'm trying to backup the special extended dvd of the Two Towers!

You can't use a transcoding app, well at least not one currently available. You will actually need to re-encode, that is if you don't want the picture all squashed.

Simply crop the sides off, resize and re-encode. Keep in mind that fullscreen movies are much harder to compress than say a 2.25:1 widescreen movie, simply because you are looking at twice as much video and no black bars. So for a movie like that you could be looking at some pretty bad quality.

In other words, pick up the full screen version instead.

If you reauthor with SpruceUp, this will make it fullscreen of sorts, by default, but it will stretch things vertically as well.

If you're not too worried about the stretching, give it a go.
