Unhappy sims unleashed backup failure [advent p3 500; ; winXP]

sponsored links

Unfortunately I did not back-up my wife's constantly used 'Sims Unleashed' and she's now cracked it!
It's just about playable, off and on, but obviously I wanted to make a back-up copy for her to use.
I used Clony XXL and Clone CD 4.2.0.2 and burnt a copy onto a Verbatim CD-R.
It looks like it has successfully copied and starts to run, but crashes back to the desktop with the following error message:

SIMS caused an invalid page fault in
module ~DF394B.TMP at 016f:1004e8ed.

This may be considered to be a spin-off post, but I wondered if it's something to do with my method of backing up rather than anything else.

I haven't backed anything up for ages. Time has marched on, but my equipment (Sony CRX145 burner) and knowledge have not. If anyone has the patience to list exact required setting for Clone CD (or any other suggested backup program I can try), I'd be grateful.

My continued life depends on this (or I'll have to bow to the inevitable and buy her another copy of Unleashed in addition to the next Sims installment!).

Cheers.

In case it makes a difference, I have the Sims on a separate partition running W98SE, 'cos I never managed to get Sims Unleashed (and possibly the one before - I forget) working on XP.
Thanx in advance.

Your copy is not 1:1 and is failing some of the SafeDisc checks.

Can't remember if that game was protected with v2.8.x or 2.9.x of SD, however either way I would suggest that you try a newer version of CloneCD and possibly enable the emulating of weak sectors as I am not sure that your drive can handle them otherwise, worth a try first though.

If you do use emulation then you will need to have the CloneCD try installed on any PC that you wish to play the game on.

I thought Clone CD 4.2.0.2 was new enough, but will try for a newer version. Any suggestions on settings/using a newer version of Clony to set settings?

For SafeDisc, simply enable fast error skipping for reading (could also do a fast dump). For writing, the settings vary for your writer. If it fully supports weak sectors, set it to ignore, otherwise amplify or emulate.

Personally I tend use Disc Juggler for SD2 backups, although it is only good if your hardware is upto the task.
