Default "Compress Drive To Save Disk Space"

sponsored links

I have a few questons about that.
1. Will I actually save any real space? Or just a few MBs?
2. Will this slow the drive down at all?
3. Can i change it so the file names are not in blue? Its pissin me off!!

I currently just have that option turned on doe my d: drive which is mainly just for BT and mIRC downloads, along with Adobe Premiere temp files. Im thinking about turning it on for my main drive...
TIA

1. you can save up to 50%, it all depends on what type of files you have. Documents and text can compress quite a lot, pictures wont be much different. Its impossible to say how much, but it CAn be significant.

2. YES! it will slow down your drive, quite considerably. Everytime windows will need to access the file, it will have to uncompress it first, then read it, then recompress it when its finished.

3. Yes, open explorer, go to Tools=> folder options
Select View
scroll down to Show encrypted or compressed files in colour uncheck the box

I wouldnt bother though, hard drives are cheap enough never to really need this utility. HTH
