Default Socket A Motherboard With Built In Sata Support

sponsored links

Hi everyone

I was wondering if you could help me out

I'm after a socket a motherboard (amd athlon xp family), with all the latest features supported. I.e. usb2, sata on board (NOT VIA PCI RAID CARD), etc etc, and anything new that I haven't heard of.

I'm after a mid range motherboard, not tooo keen on the latest one as the prce will like to halve in a few months. I'm running a sata hard drive as a backup drive using a pci raid device, and I have been told that the drive will never reach its full potential data transfer speed as the pci devices are restricetd in speeds.

I've found a couple of sata motherboard on ebay but they always tend to be via raid and not built in onboard.

Its imporatant to have it on board, so that I can get rid of my old ata100 which is currently serving as the primary drive, and using the sata raid hard drive as the windows drive is not an option because windows and all of it's software always tend to use the primary drive (i.e. the drive connected to the motherboard), to store all the cache and temp files, which then slows down the system altogther, and using 2 drives tends to reduce the speed on both drives even when one drive is not being used.

Just go to New Egg and look up motherboards. When you get to that page, you can put in what you want your motherboard to have on the left side as a general search. If there's one out there with your requirements, it'll be in the results.

ASUS A7V600 , ASUS A7N8X deluxe both have the features you are looking for. Have a look at the thread below or search for them on consumers opinion, they crop up on a regular basis.
