Default Broadband and SMC Hub question

sponsored links

Just purchased a 4 port SMC 10/100 hub that I thought would enable me to run two PC's using the Mediacom Online Internet service (cable). *****************.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5783995796&rd=1&sspage name=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

According to the manual that came with the cable modem, it said to use a hub or switch to share the connection with two PC's. I read somewhere that using a hub won't work and you need a router instead. Some insight would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You should be able to use a hub no problem.

There are some variables here... First of all, if you purchased more than one IP with your cable connection I would reccommend using a switch to connect your pc's to the cable modem. With two pc's and one IP adress from your providor you cannot use a switch or a hub. The best suggestion I can give you is get onto newegg.com or go down to Office Max and buy yourself a descent Linksys Router. You likely need DHCP, this routes two IP adresses to your two computers. I wont bore you with details, just get a router...
