Default Connecting 2 laptops using crossover cable

sponsored links

I cant believe im asking for help with this but it's driving me mad.

I have 2 laptops, both running xp and a crossover cable. I want to transfer files from one to the other. the ip for one is 192.168.100.100 and the other is 192.162.1.101, both with the same subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

I have use the 'set up a home or office network' wizard and apparently have both running on the same workgroup MSHOME. When i 'view workgroup computers' on each of the laptops they both go into MSHOME and display themselves, no sign of the other. (Most of the time though they say 'MSHOME is not accessable, you may not have permission blah blah')

What do i do?

If anyone can give me a step by step guide on how to connect these two things, i would be very grateful

thanks in advance

instead of allowing windows to allocate the network key you choose your own and make it the same on both laptops. (i think it has to over 13 letters long)

I wrote a fooking tutorial on this and the links dead now

here's a sub link
