Default "optical disks"?

Hello, this is probably a basic question, but what are optical disks? Are they different from cd and dvd?

Optical disks are those that are recorded with lasers, as opposed to magnetic storage like tapes and floppy disks. So they include CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray, etc. SOme good info here: ***********.pickyguide.com/computers_and_software/optical_disks_guide.html
