Default Read error (CRC)

sponsored links

I have read in the archives that this error generally takes place when a CD is scratched or a downloaded file is corrupted/damaged in some way.

However, I don't think this applies in my situation. Most DVDs (perfectly new, great condition) and CDs with large files will produce this error when I try to copy them to my HD. I say CDs with large files because not all CDs produce the error, and smaller files I can copy. DVD shrink and PowerISO both give me the same error on multiple discs after trying to rip just 3 or 4 percent of the disc.

I started getting this error after buying a new mother board/processor/RAM, and moving my CD/DVD drives to the new system. The old system was 32 bit, this one is 64.

Are there any other causes for this error? Problems with my BIOS settings? Motherboard? Bad cables? Windows XP x64?

Thanks for your help!

64 bit is full of problems, and drivers are usually buggy.

There's no advantage to 64 bit unless you need huge amounts of RAM.

Go back to 32 bit XP if you want less problems.

If not, look for the latest motherboard and chipset drivers, as they are more than likely the culprit. (don't rely on the generic XP drivers)

(And make sure that DMA is enabled for all your drives. It's in Device Manager under the relevant controller)
