Unhappy Double-sided DVD problems

sponsored links

I've bought a new HP XT978 with DVD player. My OS is Windows XP. When I put a double-sided DVD into the drive, the drive attempts to read the CD and can't stop, Windows crashes in the process.

With my old HP 8396 with Windows 98, the DVD drive also cannot read double-side DVD's but it quits, as it should. But I've found if I put a single-sided DVD in and play it, then put the double-sided DVD in it plays!

Any ideas for getting my new computer to play double-sided DVD's?
