On my motherbord i have a slot for "optional 256k cache memory" and i have what sort of looks like a memory stick in it....
What is it exactly?
Does it increase performance?

Thanks

you're right... But not that old... I have P200mmx but i guess that's pretty old...
It's a 256k cache module - (not memory, my bad)
So what is this cache module? It also notes it's optional.

It is scratch pad memory for processor, take it out and see what happens.

These are known as COAST , Cache-On-A-STick, designed to speed up the mainboard in the days of cacheless/small CPU cache PCs, you will gain more performance by having it installed.
