Question My DVD ROM DRIVE READING CDS BUT NOT READING DVDS PLEASE HELP!!

I dont know if anyone can help me out but I have a DVD ROM DRIVE THAT IS NO LONGER READING DVDS IT USE TO WORK.,IT NOW ONLY READS CDS BUT NO DVDS. Is there anything I can do to make it start reading dvds again. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi there why dont you try uninstalling it and removing the driver.
then reinstall it and use the windows default dvr and then connect to the web and update the driver for the hardware.
once you have the new driver go to prop's and select "device's" click on your dvd drive and update the driver from your default one to the driver you have just downloaded (top tip) put it in a separate folder then save it floppy size permitting!
if all this fails check your conflicts and tick the main header and use it at default DMA.

Thanks gavbam for replying but I already did that but still no luck I am using Windows Xp Pro and its a Samsung SD-604 DVD ROM drive. Any other suggestion would be appreciated please.

Does the drive show up ad a dvd rom in my computer? If not, you have turned off the service that reads the drive specs, and it just considers it a generic cd-rom. You will need toturn that service back on. If this is it, I will guide you to the correct service.

My guess is that laser/lens has given up. I read somewhere about old samsung drives being not very reliable and fail after a while. I've got sd-612 and it doesnt read dvd's either although it used to, couple of months ago.

If u recently bought it, try getting a refund.
