Default TDK USB 2.0 Drive, problems burning?

sponsored links
Hi guys,

I purchased an Adaptec USB 2.0 pcmcia card, and a TDK Velocd 40x USB 2.0 burner. I can read cd's with the unit, and my computer recognizes the drive, but it will not burn! I'm using the software that came with the burner (nero 5.5). This is what I did so far:

1. I inserted the card, and let windows automatically detect the card and install the drivers.

2. I went to windows update and installed this update: Microsoft Usb Driver Version 5.1.2600.0. This is supposed to allow usb 2.0 support.

3. I installed the driver that came with the card.

4. I've looked everywhere online for other drivers

5. I updated to nero 5.9

6. I spoke with Adaptec, TDK, and Compaq

The burner will read the disc, but it will not burn past the lead-in. I exchanged it for another one in case it was a defective drive, same results.

Has anyone experienced this, and can help me out? I've been working on this for days! Since none of the above companies helped me any, I am hoping for you experts to give me a hand. Thanks.

My laptop: COMPAQ PRESARIO 2720US Click here for the specifications. Thanks again.

Did you install any drivers for the burner?

I wonder whether the MS USB update has overwritten the TDK drivers. What OS are you using?

Try uninstalling the MS update & remove TDK device & drivers then add the hardware again.

I guess you bought the PCMCIA adapter because the laptop is USB1 only? If the above doesn't work then try install the burner via the USB port and see if it will run under USB1? This may narrow the possibilities.

I am using XP home. I actually wiped my system clean and started over to still get the same results. And I plugged it to the usb port in the back, and it worked just fine (but only at 4x). So it seems that has narrowed down the possibilities to being a problem with the usb 2.0 burning function. Let me add that I've tried another pcmcia usb 2.0 card (SIIG) just in case it was the adaptec card, and it did the same thing. Real frustrating. Someone from TDK suggested that maybe 2.0 burning just won't work with my system. That was a cop out statement, I mean, what can my system have that is so special that it would cause the USB 2.0 burning function not to work?

Does anyone know what I can disable in the task manager to perhaps prevent any conflicts and get this thing working? Thanks.
