Default Crossover cable and RJ45 cable, what is the difference?

I don't remember, because I can find the packaging, but I think that I bought a regular RJ45 cable. Now, what id the difference between this and a crossover cable?

I've been using a regular rj45 cable all this time. Now I have a question, with a crossover cable, will it finally acknowledge my Xbox?

Crossover cable has a couple wires swapped between plugs (i.e. it's not straight through from plug to plug). As slikmik says you need a crossover cable unless switched through a hub or switcher.

Does the PC automatically recognize the crossover cable or will it still say network cable is unplugged?
