Default PS2 Fan operation? Who Knows?

sponsored links
Just never noticed, the PS2 fan, is it heat activated or does it run continuously? I'm guessing it should run continuously but... You probably wonder why I might ask...

Disassembled my US V5 to install an autokey 3. All went well with install except..., unfortunately the fan power connector pulled off the mainboard during dissassembly instead of unplugging (yes I was prewarned and careful, but ...). The two contacts (power?) at the front of the connector came off with it (a good thing), and only one side of the board mount came off. The other board mount stayed on the board. I slid the connector back on the remaining board mount with the contacts in place on the board traces (but not soldered down). When I applied power to the PS2, the autokey functions appear to work normally, but the fan is not turning, therefore the question.

I only powered up the PS2 for a minute or so but the fan isn't running. Do I need to go back in and solder down the connector contacts to the traces in order to get power to the fan (they appear to have good contact but may not if the fan should be on)? or is the fan heat activated?

PS. I looked at the fan plug connector after it pulled off the board and I still couldn't get the plug out of the base. It is really in there good and I couldn't pull it out even after it was off the board. Just a caution to future V5 dissassemblers.
