Default PS2 GT3 bundle....should I keep?

sponsored links

I recently found this bundle (I'm in the US) and I know that the first release of the messiah supports this one well but with the US version of messiah coming out, I am thinking if I should return it and get the newer V5.x version with the better laser. Is the laser really that much better? I also read somewhere that the newer playstations can read dvd+r's whereas the older ones cannot. Is it the new laser that allows this? Thanks for any replies at all.
