Default Why is my AMD 2600 xp constantly running at 100%?

sponsored links

Surely this isn't normal? The cpu usage shows as 100% even when the pc is idle. I am running Xp pro, 2600 xp, 1gb ddr400 ram. I had a look at the processes running, and the only one I wasn't sure of was cidaemon.exe. I had a quick look into it, and there were some articles that mentioned high cpu usage with Windows 2000, but not XP. I couldn't really find any solutions either, so has anybody heard of this problem before?

Thanks in advance.

cidaemon.exe is Micro$oft Indexing Service and is apparently a resource hog.

Remove it via Add/Remove in Control Panel.

You can read a bit about it HERE.

No time to go into detail, there are loads of causes, here are a ew ideas,

Task manager= see what is using the CPU

Firewall

Are any of your cables/leads zip clipped together

Virus scan. The W32.Welchia.Worm virus can infect the dllhost.exe app, and sends the cpu usage sky high. Sometimes you can have multiple instances of dllhost.exe in the processes list at one time.

It seems cidaemon.exe was the culprit. I disabled it and it seems fine again now.

Thanks very much.

I think COUGAR should be suspended for making fun of himself and not giving me a chance.

Insomniac, you're suspended for two nanoseconds for an off topic post.
- remember you're not paranoid if they really are out to get you
