Vista: WriteMaster SH-S203B problem

I upgraded to Vista a number of months ago, and since then I have had problems with my WriteMaster SH-S203B.
When I was using 2000 the drive had no problem. But now, whenever I insert a blank disk, my whole computer slows down to a crawl. With a blank CD in the drive on a reboot, it takes the computer 20 minutes to restart. Without a blank disk in the tray, it takes about a minute.
The drive can handle DVD/CD's that have been written on, it just does this with blanks.
Anyone know how I can fix this?
