Default recognising cd drive on swappable bay laptop?????? [; ; win98]

sponsored links

I have a laptop where the dvd drive replaces the floppy drive in the same socket. so can only use one at a time

The trouble is i wiped windows 98 (formatted c)

thinking i could just put the windows cd in a start my laptop and the installation would begin as usual.

But it dont recognise my dvd drive

so i put a win 98 start up disk in to load the drivers but obviously it cant find a cd drive so dosent do it

like i said i cant have both in at the same time

like the chicken and egg senario!

I get DOS up of the floppy then swap bays to the dvd drive and type D: E: etc etc and it wont recognise it

another major problem is that i cant get into the bios setup, so cant select boot from cd

Its doing my head in and everyone elses!!

can i just plug an external cd drive in the back? (usb or parallell?)

then let the win98 cd boot when i start up (but it wont as i cant select boot from cd?) or can i go to dos and type D: setup to the external ??

Cheers

Try this:
Put in a bootable floppy with DOS CD-ROM drivers and copy this to your hard drive. In other words, make your hard drive bootup with the DOS CD-ROM drivers. Then swap to your CD drive and reboot. The DOS drivers should be able to configure the CD drive so you can read from it.
