Default Cdrw Drive And Internal Dvd Player

sponsored links
Yo.., Can someone explain to me why my DVD drive doesn't work injuction with el cheap o CDRW drive? I had DVD then install CDRW..the DVD wouldn't work. If the Cdrw is unplug the DVD works. If both are plugs in only the CDRW drive functions. The DVD shows up as working correctly in the PC yet it wont read any type disc.

This is the secound time I seen this problem. I figure the motherboard needs another IDE channel. Am I correct?

Some DVD ROMs cause problems if they are not set up as the master. If the DVDROM & burner are sharing an IDE cable then switch the DVD to master & the burner to slave.

You can have four IDE devices connected to your motherboard.

The hard drive is normally know as Primary Master.

Any IDE device you connect will be given a "name" depending on what its jumper setting it.

These are the four names...

Primary Master - Normally the hard drive
Seconday Master
Primary Slave
Secondary Slave

When your pc boots up you should be able to see what each device is called.

The HD, CD drive and the DVD drive are all probably set as "master" you can only have 2 master devices so one won't work.

Try changing the jumper on the CD drive to slave.
