Default Extremely slow FTPing to and from Xbox

Lately I've been getting 5k speeds while transferring to and from my xbox. I'm not sure what the problem is, when I ping the xbox every so often the ping request times out. What does this suggest to you, what would you try first? I've tried using a different cable, but the same thing happens

Anyone have any idea what the problem could be ?

Default Hmm....

Have you tried opening the ports on your router or DMZing the router altogether and using a software firewall on your PC?
I did that and now I get 10MBps when transferring over the LAN. Whereas when is wasn't DMZed and even when I opened all the right ports, it either sent at an embarrassingly low 3-5KBps or wouldn't connect at all.
Also, if you are running a software firewall aswell, make sure that the IP of the X-Box is set to "trusted" so the PC will let you connect to it properly.
