why yes i do never used it myself but friend did. a professional installer at the game exchange uses a hot glue gun to secure solder points

Dude, Flux is a chemical used on various types of metal (such as the VIA's in a PS2) to remove any chemical traces and various particals. This allows solder to bond with it easier. Flux is not an adhesive and hot glue is definately not an alterniative for flux. Maybe you've heard of flux core solder, somehow putting an adhesive in the core of solder seems counter-productive and possible damaging to your soldering iron.

Question: If flux just removes chemical traces then wouldn't a solvent brushed on do the same thing?
