Default Help! Mouse won't work!!! [; ; winME]

sponsored links
I've installed the driver disk and everything and it wont work, ive tried three different mice. Two PS/2 and one Serial (bearing in mind it is an old computer (very old!) and none seem to work, although when i go to COntrol Panel > Mouse, theres the options and stuff there.
And there seems to be a problem with it under 'System Devices'.
It says that it is either 'all drivers not installed properly' or 'it isn't working'

Can anyone tell me whats wrong please and how i could fix it?

Try removing the device in the "Safe Mode" and see if Windows will detect it properly on a reboot.
Check the BIOS to ensure that the setting for the device are set properly.

Hummmm...... one more time..
  1. Remove the entry from Windows Device Manager
  2. Goto Command Prompt
  3. Change your working directory to Windows (CD \Windows)
  4. Give the command ATTRIB -S -H -R System.INI
  5. Now Edit the file called SYSTEM.INI (Edit system.ini)
  6. In the [boot] section look for mouse.drv= entry
  7. Simply place ; before the line (same as REM of batch file)
  8. Save & exit the EDIT environment as well as DOS prompt.
  9. Restart Windows

Mouse should work here without any drivers or without any kind of entry in Device Manager.
