Default Problem with XP and 2000 Internet Sharing

sponsored links

Hi,

I have a shitty 56k modem and I just want to internet share a connection through my network. The base pc (with main internet connection) is a XP pc (PC1), and PC2 is a WIN 2000 PC.

I know there is an issue that they are quite hard to make compatable with Internet Sharing but i really need to internet share them. I have followed guides etc............................But nothing happens..................When I open Internet Explorer on PC2 it just says something like 'cannot find website blah blah'

Has anyone done XP and 2000 without a router?

Thanks

Hi m8

Have you got any firewall software running.....? If so you'll need to set the IP address of the Win2k system to being a 'trusted' one. Also there's a facility in WinXP to create a disc to setup ICS on different systems...

I know about the ICS disk the thing is that all Win operating systems accept it but 2000 doesn't (I personally think its stupid). I do not have any firewall stuff

All you should need to do on the 2nd pc is set the IP address to be assigned by DHCP. If it won't assign a proper IP after rebooting (should be 192.168.0.x) then set it manually.

IP: 192.168.0.2
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway: 192.168.0.1
dns server: 192.168.0.1

Try pinging pc1 from pc2.
Try pinging www.msn.co.uk from pc2, if no response try 207.46.28.49

What about the firewall built into XP? Is that enabled?
