The monitor has a refresh rate of 60hz with a resolution of 1024x768.How do I increase the refresh rate and keep it at that rate. Will it make it better or worse?

I don't think you can get a higher refresh rate on a 1024x768 resultion. But check your monitors manual or their website. And it usaully matters on your video card and not the monitor itself.

You absolutely need to do something because 60 Hz will damage your eyes. Fast. Take care!

What size monitor are you using? It sounds like you may have a 14 or 15 inch which will probably only allow that screen size at a rate of 60 Hz.

Try taking the size down to 800x600. Is it still 60 Hz or do you have a selection of refresh rates to choose from in your display properties.

Also, WinXP is sort of locked in to certain rates when running 3d games. I believe it's 60 Hz for OpenGL and 70 Hz for Direct 3D. I'm using a program called Refresh Lock which over-rides this setting and allows you to specify the refresh rate.
