Question Cyberhome AL528 DVD Player Firmware

sponsored links

I had a DVD-R copy that wouldn't play on my samsung 511 as it kept jumping.

I recently brought one of these because I wanted a player that would play anything (ie CD-R, CD-RW, MP3), wasn't bothered it looked shite as it goes in a cabinet.

Anyway got it home and set it up and it played everything OK. Even the DVD-R copy, well chuffed.
The MP3 menu only showed the first 8 characters and looking on the Cyberhome web site the latest version of firmware 10.1 supported MP3 long file names.
Checked my player and it had version 9.48 so I downloaded & updated the firmare to 10.1.
MP3s now OK, even thought the pic quality was better !!

But on playing the DVD-R copy the pic keep freezing for approx 30 secs.

Was on the verge of taking it back, then I decided to download the old version of firmware (9.48) and downgraded the player !!!!!!

And guess what ? No MP3 long filenames but the DVD-R copy plays perfect again !!!!

Any one else seen or heard of this ?

If it is a poor DVD-R copy, is one version of the firmware more forgiving than the other ???

Hi M8,

It's a known problem so you will have to wait untill a new firmware comes out and untill then keep flashing between them.

If you need any more info on the Cyberhome AL528 DVD Player or it's Firmware go to ***********.cyberhome-help.de/main_english.php4
and ********forum.cyberhome-help.de/

I agree. Got the following reply from e-mailing them about it

Dear Sir

At this time we are waiting for a new Firmwareupdate wich will fix this
Problem. Please wait till this Update is available on our Homepage.

Best regards

Cyberhome Support

Looks like a bog standard reply.... You would think that each new version of firmware would be an improvement and not have backward steps / errors in them.

Didn't say how long to wait for next update. I still think the picture quality was better in 10.1 (Is this possible ??)

Ahhhh Well. Life is never straight forward.

Hi Guys
I have just taken delivery of the 528. I am a bit of a Newbie to all this, but would be grateful for your advice.

Could you tell me how to switch off Macrovision and how to upgrade the firmware. Also can I check which version I have ? Sorry for being thick!

Thanx

Phil
