Angry cd drive problems [; ; win98]

sponsored links

I have two problems with two different cd drives...

My one year old cd drive just stopped working recently..when i put a cd in, the light is on for a few seconds then goes out, when i try to open d:/ from my computer it says "D:\ is not accessible The device is not ready".

After getting this error i tried a much older cd drive which could open normal cds fine but when i tried to open cd-r dics with it then one of three things would happen:
1. it would say the same as above: D:\ is not accessible
2. it would show that the cd is empty (when i know it isnt)
3. when i open d:\ from my computer it will show the files i know are on there but when i try to open them a blue screen comes up saying the disc may need cleaning because the drive is not accessing properly (the cd isnt dirty at all)

Any help would be great...and prefferably dont tell me to buy a new cd drive

Thanx in advance

You could try cleaning the laser itself with a lens cleaning disk, this helped me when i had the same problem..

Try deleting the drive from device manager, reboot, and let window reinstall it.

I am in school right now doing an assignment for my computer repair/networking class. I need to network my computer to another students computer and I curently have windows 98 installed on it. I don't know why but my computer isn't recognizing my CD-Rom drive and when I try to install the driver it wants me to put the windows 98 CD in. This is a problem becuase it wont recognize the drive. I also have a device conflict with my networking card that also requires the windows 98 CD. My cd drive is attapi.

If anyone has any information that I could use for this situation it would be very helpfull, thanks.
