How to import & Edit Sony Sony Cybershot AVCHD files in iMovie smoothly

Native AVCHD file support is the first thing I expected for the new iMovie. However, though iMovie'11 claims to support AVCHD structure, it's not so easy to do. Except the system requirement of Mac Osx 10.6.7 and Intel-based Core Duo processor or better, it's impossible to import the AVCHD footages recorded from Sony Cybershot DSC-TX55/TX66/TX10/TX20/TX100v/TX200 to iMovie for smoothly editing without crashing problem and avoid rendering.

If you want to import the Sony Cybershot AVCHD MTS or M2TS files to iMovie for editing smoothly, the best solution is transcoding the Sony Cybershot AVCHD footages to iMovie native format, (e.g. Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC) encoded .mov format). To help those who wanna edit Sony Cybershot AVCHD MTS videos in iMovie smoothly, here I will throw this quick guide up on how to convert Sony AVCHD MTS to AIC and then load the encoded AVCHD files into iMovie for editing.
