Default External DVD Writer

Hi...
I am thinking of buying a DVD writer: - Pioneer 106 OEM and a USB 2.0 to IDE Adaptor, Pioneer 106 from SVP 90 + adaptor 30 from Maplin
because I am running off a Laptop, or would I be better getting a 5.25 case and fitting the Writer up that way.......
