You only have 53 MB RAM available for processing and virtual disk cache. How much freedisk space? Since you have a relatively small hard disk you may not have enough space for virtual memory, which you will need since you have so little RAM. Try freeing as much spaces a possible on the hard drive and run the Windows defragmenter.

I don't think a clean install is absolutely neccessary. I haven't done a reformat and clean install in over 3 1/2 years. A clean install is the easy way out of the problem, since you don't really solve the problem. Buying a new PC is another easy way out, but neither solution is absolutly necessary if you track down the source of the problem.

Jeff, try this update from Microsoft and see if it fixes the 7 minute startup problem.

I'll try your methods and get back to you guys soon as possible.... my dad wants to blame me for the problem and he's making things worse so he's forbidding me to get on the computer until the weekends!! I want my own laptop but he claims it's too freakin expensive!
