officemax is running a special this week on the cendyne drives. You can get the 2x Cendyne104 (Pioneer104) drive for $179 after instore discount and mail-in rebate. I think you could still pick up the Cendyne105 (Pioneer105) which is a 4x drive for about $230-$240 instore.

I would recommend an (OEM) BENQ dw1620.

I get on pretty well with mine- but you DO have to experiment with firmware a bit to get the best compatibility for [I]your[/I] preferred media.

Anyhow- i got mine for 50 (gb) and i think it's pretty good.

dual format, dual layer.

newer firmwares have good dvd-r support (was an early complaint)
