Default USB Driver XP SP2 - External hard drive problem

sponsored links

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop. It used to recognize my Seagate external hard drive when I plugged in the usb, but one day my computer went into hibernation and I haven't been able to get it working since.

It picks up the hard drive initially and comes up with the error saying it's not a high speed USB and then nothing.

I've seen the fix for SP1, but nothing for SP2. Any help would be appreciated.

I have not been able to find a fix for SP2 as yet.

Look in Device Manager - Universal Serial Bus Controllers - There should be an entry in mine it is - SiS PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controler.

The PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controler is the USB 2 controller and it is installed, but could be corrupt.

If its not there, it means that it is no longer installed.

I have not tryed to reinstall SP2 but you could try.

Exclamation Same Problem Kinda

My pc got all screwy after a program i attempted to use froze my pc. When i rebooted I could not use my external HD or my DVD Burner which is also external. After several attempts to reformat my pc it still does not work. I think I will have to take it in and get it wiped out and start totally fresh. Even with the drivers on my AMD disc nothing seems to work. If you have found a way to get yours working please let me know. Thanks.

Default Similar Problem

I have an Acer Aspire 5102WLMi. My Western Digital external usb hard drive causes my computer to freeze up. I've checked Device Manager, but whenever I connect the drive, my computer freezes in about five seconds. Sometimes I can disconnect the drive from the computer & I will get control back, but not always. I usually have to turn off the computer without going through the shut down process. I have connected the usb drive to another computer & it works fine. Any help that anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance,

Cam R.
