Can you get to dos without using a floppy, the reason being that my floppy does not work. When I tried to install using the cdrom boot option it failed to install and I read the cdrom drive from the a prompt.ie when it failed to install it put up the a prompt so I typed dir and it read the contents of the cdrom drive.Any help greatfully appreciated.
Confused.

I'm not sure I understand, but I'll give it a shot. You can burn a floppy image onto a cdr and boot from that. I burnt the win98 boot disk image onto a CDR and use it to boot from. Haven't installed a floppy drive in a PC I've built for awhile...................Am I on the right track or am I way off.................

If you are at the prompt then you are already into DOS Mode. If there is any folder like Win98 or WinMe on CD then change your working floder by using CD command. Like

CD Win98

Now run setup from this point onwards.
