Default matshita dvd rom sr 8583 [; ; win98]

Not sure about all this stuff relativley new to the pc world,but I would like to know if any one can help me with some information on compatabilty for purchasing a dvd rw.I currently have a Matshita dvd rom sr 8583 fitted and want to up grade to a dvd rw.Dont know what information you will need regarding my pc, but I will let you know if I can.Hope this makes sense to some one.

you dont need to upgrade it, you can add to your pc and have 2, one as a reader the other as a burner. If your looking for a brand to get I would suggest the pioneer A06 or 106, Sony DRU514a. You can find them at best buy or on pricewatch.com

kwakakid,

To be certain of compatibility we would need your CPU, RAM and hard drive space(free) but theoretically if you simply wanted to upgrade the drive, it would be a simple as pull one out, and plug in the other, making sure the jumper setting on the back of the drive was the same (would either be set to MA, for Master, or SL, for Slave).
