Default i cant make a dvdr image of xbox games?

I just wanted to confirm something I read in the faq where it said you cant make your own backups of xbox games I have. Does this refer to ripping a game to cdr/cdrw? I know ps2 games are impossible to do this to unless you know what you're doing, but I can copy ps2 to dvdr by making an iso with my pioneer A03 dvdr burner, so why can't I do the same with xbox games? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding this, but since I am buying an xbox next week I was planning on copying a bunch of games this way from a buddy, and now I want to make sure I won't be wasting a bunch of good dvdr blanks.....thanks for the help.

Xbox games arn't on standard DVD. They are on dual layered discs, which dvd burners can't create. There for someone has to "rip" the game from the original. At this moment the process is a closely guarded secret of a couple of groups. For now the only way to get games is to download them. They are available in newscroups and on IRC. I would tell you exactly where but then I'd have to kill you errr I'd get banned forum this form anyway. Search the web for the newsgroup, I found it in about 1 minute.

I really wish people would correctly answer some question, I have seen many times on this board discussing the xbox game disc protection people bring up the fact that the discs are dvd9, that is NOT part of the protection on the xbox disc, sure there are no writers for DVD9, but all dvd players can read them because movies are on dvd 9, in fact, no current xbox game even goes over the 4.7 dvd-r mark yet, even halo. The real protection is in the false TOC, the game disc filesystem, and the unlock code needed to unlock each game disc in the dvd-rom drive of the xbox. Thats the protection, NOT DVD9.

money69, you are correct. However it is only a matter of time before a dvd ripper for xbox is available.
