Default MP3 Question

sponsored links

Hi.

What are the ID Tags on mp3's for, you know say when you use winamp and get file info.

As i normally disable ID Tags then when i re-name a song i only have to do it via the file andnot the ID Tag too, its quicker, so just wondering what exactly is it for?

Thanks

Ross

I'm moving this to audio as I think that you'll get a better response there.

Default CD Text

ID tags contain info such as Artist, Album, Song Title, Genre. This information can be recorded to audio CDs as CD-Text, some CD Players can read this text and so rather than displaying 'Track 1' would display 'Rolling Stones --- Paint it black'

To burn CD Text just tick the CD Text check box in the burning options on your burning software.
There aren't that many PC audio CD players that support CD text, so even if Tags are on the disc Windows Media Player will just show 'Track 1'

ID3 tags can contain additional useful information, such as volume level. The MP3s can be normalized (adjusted to the same peak volume for example) without actually changing the MP3, just an entry in the tag. Unfortunately not many players or burners use this info yet (The latest MusicMatch does). You can also use a utility like Tag&Rename to take the file name and add it to a ID3 tag automatically.
