it depends on if your motherboard supports dual chanel memory, if it does then get 2x 512 but if it dosent just go for a 1GB dimm

as for the speed then it depends on your CPU, i.e if you have a 266 FSB on your CPU then get PC2100, as unless you overclock then anything faster will be pointless

Also if your mobo (chipset technically) only supports pc2100 RAM, you wont be able to utilize pc3500 speeds. It will just run at pc2100 specs.

But,check prices! Many places sell pc2700 as cheap,or cheaper than pc2100.Even IF your system can't use the extra bandwidth,go with the 2700 in this case.

right now i have a intel celeron 2.5Ghz im gonna upgrade this also so im checking my motherboard manual and it says Intel Pentium 4 400Mhz FSB does this mean my motherboard cannot take a pentium 4 3Ghz 800Mhz
but only a 2.6Ghz 400Mhz? or what does it mean?? for ram is says
supports ddr266/ddr200
supports up to 2 unbuffered double sided DIMM ddr266/ddr200
Max 2GB
supports only 2.5v DDR DIMM

can anyone tell me what im looking at for ram then>?? thanks

To your original question: The board manual says that DDR266 is supported (this is PC2100), this will be the maximum speed so there would be no point in spending out on PC3500.

To your second question: If the manual says it supports up to 2.6 GHz processor at 400 MHz FSB then thats what it supports.

The best thing you can do is check the motherboard manufacturers website and see what fruits the latest BIOS upgrades would allow, there might be some improvement.
