Default laptop help needed please.

sponsored links

Hello

I recently bought a laptop.

it is a

hp pavilion ZE 4400

but the problem is when I bought it the guy had accidently broke the end of the charger so it would not work, but I took the chance as its a newish model.

I borrowed a charger from a friend who has a compaq laptop, the latest model.

but when i switch the laptop on the screen is black and there is nothing comming up, but if I shine a torch on the screen I can see the desktop, but when i switch the torch off, its just black.

I know the laptop works as ive had it through my pc monitor, but I cant get anything on the laptop screen.

could it be that I need the exact charger for that laptop in order for the screen to show anything or does it not make a difference.

does anyone have any idea what it could be.

is there a contrast or brightness control on the laptop or something.

please help as i payed 500 for it and have no way of getting my money back

thanks

I think your back light for the monitor has gone or the switch that turns it off which is usually located somewhere along the edge of the laptop above the keyboard is stuck in the off position-

for instance on my laptop i have a little rounded spring mounted switch that protrudes about 2-3mm roughly 2-3cm from the right edge of my laptop above the keyboard. If you close the laptop or press it down the the back light for the monitor turns off. try looking for something similar- it could be that the spring is stuck in the down (off) position or it could require you opening up the panel if it is more damaged than that

I doubt it has anything to do with the powers supply
