Default Deleting DOS partition

sponsored links

I have a 4 GB hard drive running Windows 95 that has an active primary DOS partition of 1028 and an extended partition of 3067, the extended partition is comprised of 2 logical DOS drives of 2047mb and 1020mb. I would like to get rid of the extended partition and allocate the entire 4 gig to one primary partition. I've deleted the 2 logical DOS drives with FDISK, if I now delete the Extended partition using FDISK does the 3067mb get allocated back to the primary partition or do I have to reformat?

Thanks

You will have to delete the primary and extended partitions and re-create the primary partition if you want the full space as one drive. (Thusly deleting all data)

That's only if you use FDISK however. If you use Partition Magic, all you need to do is delete the extended partition and re-allocate the space into the primary partition.

The extended partition space is unallocated and wont be added to the primary partition. You'll need a partition manager like partition magic to add the unalloctaed disc space to the primary partition if you dont want to have to re-install your os. If you dont mind reformatting/re-installing then delete the primary partiton using fdisk, reboot and fdisk again answering yes to using all the available disc space as one partition 'C'.........

Edit: Must of answered this at the same time Memphis....
