Default Pentium 4 (2.4 Ghz) or Athlon XP 2600+ (2.13 Ghz)

What's up guys

I recently bought a Athlon XP 2600+ (2.13 Ghz) computer, some people told me that this computer was faster than the Pentium 4 (2.4 Ghz), but then I read some posts on the internet that the pentium 4 had a best performance than the athlon.

Can someone that really knows about computers tell me which one is the best.

Thank you..

First of all, wrong forum.

Secondly, it takes more than just the cpu to determine how fast a system is. Other important factors include motherboard, memory, hard disk, graphics card.

Moving this to CoOp.

Also the P IV maybe quicker for some taks whilst the Athlon is quicker for others. If you check out any CPU reviews/benchmarks I think you will find it rare to see a clear winner in all areas.

So assuming you were talking about MPEG2 encoding times and that is why you posted in DVD then the P4 may very well be quicker but also be slower at different tasks or even performing the same task with different software.

Celtic pretty much said it all. The fastest p4 is faster than the fastest athlon, and I prefer AMD, so I'm not real happy 'bout that .......... As for a 2600 versus a 2.4, other than running benchmark utilities, you'll probably never see very much difference, least in raw power. I'd stick with what you got, and when you decide to upgrade again, check around to which is faster than. Hopefully it'll be the AMD....... .............just my 2 cents............

I'm getting ready to upgrade to the AMD XP 2600+ after using the 1800+ for the past 16 months. It has served me well and consistently benchmarked on par with a P4 2.0 CPU. I'd think it would be pretty safe to say that the 2600 would be on par with the P4 2.4 and you'd even have some coin left in your pocket

many people (inlcluding me) think that the only reason that some AMD can beat P4's is that AMD 'over rated' their first few batches of XP's

if you look at how the core speed of AMD's have gone down in relation to the speed AMD rates them at you will find a big difference

saying that i have a 2400

IMO P4 are just better
