Default Why not master?

sponsored links
My cd writer is the only unit that is connected to my mainboard's secondary IDE port.

When i set the jumper on my cd writer to master, my computer doesn't detect the writer. When i set the jumper to slave, everything works just fine.

So right now my cd writer is my "secondary slave", but i have no "secondary master". Why can't i set my writer to master?

did u try a different IDE cable? Also make sure your BIOS is set to auto detect both slave and master. If someone pre-configured the master settings for a HD, then nothing else would show up...................HTH
