Default brand new pioneer 104 installed new pioneer DVD burner but DELL does not recognize...

sponsored links

just installed in new DELL PC. brand new pioneer 104. this is what I did.... opened unit, removed plastic cover for slot, hooked up long skinny plug on ribbon right below DVD reader into slot on back of burner.. ribbon has extra plug 2 inches below DVD reader which came with unit. and also plugged in small white 4 hole female plug into right side back of DVD burner. hooked all cables that was attached, turned power back on and PC booted normally, did not recognize anything. went into "add new hardware" and wizard did not detect DVD burner. Running Windows XP (which I think is a piece of S--t software). any ideas. DO NOT WANT TO UPGRADE. Dont think upgrade is part of my PC not recognizing burner. Any ideas? is there any other wires to hook up on the inside? that im missing. does this burner come with a install disc? I received some discs with it but no install software. **** I do see a window when I really go into installing hardware which says " serial cable using IrDA protoco" what does this mean? thanks to all!

Your new drive would be set to master by default. You old drive is probably also set to master. You can not have 2 master drives on the same IDE channel, one must be set to slave.

Remove the drive unless you have a enough room to easily get to the back of it
you need to find the 'drive configuration jumper' which is the 2nd row of conections from the left (looking from rear of drive)
above the connections is MA-Master SL-slave CS-cable select
if you are using a cd-rom or dvd-rom drive its best to set that on slave and your DVD-R on Master
simply(***carefully*** dont drop it)remove the small jumper that is bridging the 2 small connections (maybe blue or black...but always fiddly)
and move it to where you require... ensuring you fit it the way it came off....dont fit it sideways
hope this helps

I got a new Dell. Let me assure you all their drives are set to cable select not m/s. Use that first.
